Heavy drinking during young adulthood results in serious health problems in later life. A new study published in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs released few more interesting results.
Health problems even after quitting alcohol
As per the findings, 368 men did not report any symptoms of alcohol dependence at any point in adulthood. But 221 men had at least three symptoms of dependence in young adulthood and middle age. 75 people had symptoms in early adulthood but not after the age of 30
The study also revealed that men who had alcohol dependence symptoms for at least five years at the beginning of adulthood are not healthy both physically and mentally once they had reached their 60’s.
Even after quitting alcohol, they may still face depression in future. The effects were seen even among men who had quit drinking for several decades.
Years of consuming alcohol in early adulthood will have an effect on brain areas.
Alcohol consumption during early adulthood will cause infertility problems among women. The impact on women is even more when compared to men. Researchers observed that women who have quit drinking even after years are still facing infertility problems.
To reduce the impact on health post quitting alcohol, the people should change their lifestyle, eating habits and sleep patterns. The people should also lead a stress-free life and should quit smoking.
